Bursary Summary

The University of Cape Town is offering an exciting opportunity for an aspiring MSc student in the field of Tertiary Mathematics Education for the academic years 2024-2025.

The selected candidate will be required to register in the Faculty of Science or Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment at UCT.

This program offers a unique opportunity to engage in innovative projects and support first-year BSc students.

Funding & Duration

  • Duration: 2 years (2024-2025)
  • Funding: R167,300 per year, covering both bursary (R130,000) and research project running costs (R37,300)

???? Eligibility and Criteria

  • An interest in, and preferably experience in tutoring or teaching university-level mathematics.
  • An Honours degree with an undergraduate degree in a mathematically-focused subject.
  • A four-year degree in a mathematically oriented discipline, such as engineering, will be considered

Role & Responsibilities

  • Engage in an innovative project designed to support first-year BSc students, easing their transition to
    university-level mathematics studies.
  • Assist in designing and conducting mathematical thinking workshops aimed at enhancing students’ mathematical and metacognitive skills.
  • Attend 2-hour workshops twice a week each semester
