Remuneration

All-inclusive salary package of R 687 879 per annum (OSD as prescribed)

Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD) are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc.

Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees’ service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements

Job Purpose

The Department of Infrastructure, Western Cape Government has opportunities for three (3) qualified Candidate Engineers (OSD) to provide technical, civil engineering, project management and administrative support to departmental engineering projects.

The successful incumbents must have the ability to work under pressure, willingness to work irregular hours and meet tight deadlines. These contract positions are based in Cape Town.

Requirements

  • Engineering Degree (B Eng/BSC (Eng)) or relevant qualification;
  • Registration with ECSA as a Candidate Engineer is compulsory upon appointment;
  • A valid code B driving licence.
RecommendationFurther post qualification studies and publications. Design and Construction (site) or Contract Management experience.
Experience in Road infrastructure Projects.
Mature candidate engineer.
Completed ECSA Group A Outcomes (Description to be provided in CV).

Key Performance Areas

Design new systems to solve practical engineering problems (challenges) and improve efficiency and safety: Planning, designing, operating and maintenance of engineering projects; Development of cost effective solutions according to standards;

Evaluation of existing technical manuals, standard drawings and procedures to incorporate new technology; Promote safety in line with statutory and regulatory requirements;

Office Administration: Prepare inputs for the facilitation of resource utilisation; Adhere to regulations and procedures for Supply Chain Management (SCM) and HR administration; Report on service delivery;

Research and development: Keep up with new technologies and procedures; Research/literature studies on engineering technology to improve expertise; Liaise with relevant bodies/councils on engineering-related matters; Follow approved programme of development for registration purposes.

Competencies

Working knowledge of the following: Legal compliance; Engineer design and analysis; Project management skills; Proven problem solving and analysis skills; Research and development skills;

Computer literacy (relevant engineering software packages); Ability to draft complex technical reports, memorandums and submissions; Written and verbal communication skills.
