The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) invites applications for the CSIR/MerSETA: Work Integrated Learning Programme 2024.

Location: The position is based in Scientia, Pretoria (Hybrid).

The CSIR has two Internship opportunities in the Textile Testing and Characterisation facility, in the Advanced Polymer Composites Research Group, within the Chemicals Cluster. 

The purpose of this internship is to provide graduates with an opportunity to gain practical work experience through textile testing and characterisation of industrial samples under the guidance of experienced technologists. 

About the Learnership

The CSIR in partnership with MerSETA is offering work integrated learning opportunity to students who require experiential training in order to fulfil national diploma requirements.

The programme provides opportunities to students to gain practical experience that augments their theoretical studies under the guidance of more experienced professionals. This opportunity helps applicants bridge the gap between the academics and practical application, making them more employable.

The programme covers various fields of science, engineering and technology (SET) sector including:

  • Electronics Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering


  • A South African citizen;
  • Full-time enrolment at a University of Technology in any of the above area of study;
  • Must have passed all courses and left with practical experience to complete their National Diploma.
