The University of the Free State has a vacancy for: Student Affairs intern.

Assumption of duties: 1 March 2024.

Stipend: A stipend of R8 293.75 will be paid per month.

Location: Bloemfontein Campus – Bloemfontein, FS ZA

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage the Front Desk as first point of contact for all visitors (students, parents, service providers and fellow staff members) – be the face of HRA.
  • Render excellent support and quality customer service at all times to students, parents, staff members and visitors to HRA.
  • Answer phone calls, referred from the Accommodation Administration’s offices as well as the Assistant Director’s office.

  • Liaise and communicate with Residence Heads and RC teams regarding important information from the Placement Office.
  • Refer visitors to the appropriate offices within HRA..
  • Do desktop research with regards to areas and topics as identified.
  • Assist in the process to build Mercury templates.
  • Do research on renewal and expansion of reports in Mercury.

  • Do general enquiries about student’s academic and booking records as well as finances using PeopleSoft.
  • Have a general understanding of off-campus accommodation in order to assist with basic enquiries.
  • Electronic processing of room shooting lists as received from junior residences.
  • Generate room lists for Residence Heads in both junior and senior accommodation.

  • Prepare documentation for Renewal of Accommodation process.
  • Participate and assist in the management and planning of the accommodation arrangements of exchange students.
  • Assist in any other area in HRA as needed.

Inherent requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree on NQF Level 7.


  • Experience related to the student housing environment.
  • Have not participated in any learnership / internship programme.
  • Willing to sign a learnership / internship agreement with the UFS.
  • Has no formal work experience.
