Bursary Eligibility Criteria

In order for your application to be considered by Shell for 2024 academic year, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens,
  • Applicants from disadvantaged/underprivileged backgrounds will be considered for the bursary programme,
  • Academic pass in grade12 for the following subjects: English, Mathematics and Physical Science above 70% depending on the field of study,

  • Applicants in possession of a matriculation certificate,
  • Applicants that have proof that they have registered and been accepted at a tertiary institution,
  • The awarding of bursaries will consider principles of diversity and inclusion,
  • The course of study must be relevant to the energy sector.

Fields of Study Available for Funding

The bursary caters for aspiring students who are pursuing a career in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) but do not have funding for their studies to obtain a tertiary qualification.

Shell has previously awarded over 200 to aspiring South Africa students. The bursary will cover the following expenses while you focus on your studies:

  • tuition fees
  • books
  • accommodation

Beyond financial support, bursary recipients will gain access to mentorship, networking, and potential careers with Shell and its partners.
