About the Shaft Timberman Learnership
Gold Fields is inviting applications for this Learnership programme which offers practical work-based training. This will enable learners to adapt effectively in the world of work and to be employable at the end of their learnership.
Aspiring employees interested in pursuing a career as a Shaft Timberman now have the opportunity to enter into a formal learnership development programme.
To qualify as an Applicant from a Host Community you would need to either:
- Be a resident of one of our Host Communities being Bekkersdaal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein or Jachtfontein, or
- Successfully passed Grade 12 and or matric at a school situated within one of the said Host Communities mentioned hereinabove.
Qualifications
If you possess the following, you should apply:
- Grade 12 with Maths and Science
- Onsetter and Blasting certificate
- 1-3 years’ experience as a Banksman / Onsetter in a vertical shaft environment
Of course, this is a mining job and applicants must be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre.
You will also be expected to pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test and any other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment.
Skills and Attributes
Proficient in English oral and written communication skills are a requirement. Other requirements include:
- Abide by all health and safety rules / regulations applicable on the mine
- Undergoing technical training as prescribed by MQA/ DMRE during the Training Programme
- Maintain consistent performance as per scheduled technical evaluation cycles
- Take personal accountability for driving own career development and initiating developmental discussions
- Actively engage with HRD and technical oversight team to obtain feedback
- Promoting teamwork and being an effective team member
