Kromco South Africa is recruiting for the Technical Horticultural Assistant Learnership Programme 2024/ 2026.

Applications are invited from individuals interested in undertaking a 2-year development process to become qualified as a technical assistant with specific focus in horticulture pre-harvest.

Kromco (Pty) Ltd is one of South Africa’s largest fruit-packing and marketing companies, situated close to Grabouw in the Western Cape.

Job Purpose

The program aims to develop individuals with potential into horticultural technicians so that they are qualified to apply for horticulturist positions in the job market.

A career in pre-harvest technical field, but not limited to, is a challenging and dynamic field, particularly in Horticulture, where the most significant improvements, developments, and growth is taking place.

About the Learnership Programme

The successful candidate will undergo a 2-year development program where they will receive practical exposure, responsibilities, and training (formal and informal) to possess the experience, knowledge, and training required to function as a Junior Horticulturist Technician.

This is not a permanent appointment, and candidates will be evaluated every 6 months regarding their suitability to continue with the development program.

Requirements

  • National Senior Certificate with at least 50% in:
    • ❑ Mathematics or Technical Mathematics (NOT Mathematical Literacy)
    • ❑ Biology & physical science
  • Proficiency in English and Afrikaans for technical communication, training, and examinations.
  • Basic computer software skills, i.e. Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Eagerness to learn and ad apt to self-learning.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to attend periodic industry courses.
  • Willing and driven to pass online certification exams.
  • Good observation, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Willingness to work overtime
  • Ability to handle pressure.
  • Physically fit and healthy.
