About the Learnership
South Deep Gold Mine is offering aspiring Employees and or prospective Applicants from within our Host Communities interested in pursuing a career in Engineering, the opportunity to enter into a formal Engineering Learnership programme.

To qualify as an Applicant from a Host Community you would need to:
- Be a resident of one of our Host Communities being Bekkersdaal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein or Jachtfontein, and
- Successfully have passed the 4 x N3 Trade specific subjects as required by both the MQA and South Deep mine.
The programme offers practical work-based training and external technical training to enable learners to adapt effectively in the world of work and to qualify as artisans at the end of their programme.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 with Maths and Science
- Be in possession of full N3 qualifications with 4 subjects i.e., Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Diesel Trade theory and Engineering Drawing
- Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Duties and Responsibilities
- Undergoing technical training as prescribed by MQA and short courses as required by the mine during the Learnership Maintain consistent performance.
- Initiating developmental discussions
- Seeking feedback
- Adhering to the company`s conditions of employment, policies and code of conduct
- Abide by all health and safety rules / regulations applicable on the mine.
- Promoting of teamwork and being an effective team member.
- Wearing all the prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) while on mine/ at the training centre
- Abide by the values of South Deep Gold Mine i.e. safety, integrity, respect, responsibility, innovation, and collaborative delivery
