Are you a wordsmith with a passion for storytelling? Do you thrive on uncovering compelling narratives and bringing them to life through the written word? If so, we’re seeking a talented freelance to join our News & Talk team as a Freelance Field Reporter.
Main Purpose
To research, write, edit and report on news content for the Kaya FM Station in accordance with the Station’s prescribed policies and procedures.
Key Performance Areas
- To gather information by researching, sourcing and generating Kaya FM stories according to the prescribed company procedure.
- To ascertain whether the stories are true by verifying sources and the information obtained from the sources.
Going out on stories for strong field reporting. - Live crossings from the scene of stories into news bulletins.
- To write and source stories for broadcasting purposes, as well as to live-tweet updates and upload audio and videos while on the story.
- To manage and maintain a good contact base with newsmakers across all areas of news.
- To tweet at least three times an hour throughout the day according to the prescribed company procedure.
- To come up with a strong diary, daily and contribute meaningfully to the diary meetings.
- To produce a news story blog at least once a week according to the prescribed company procedure.
- To successfully complete all allocated and agreed development activities such as voice, audio-visual training, social media training, and writing training.
Qualifications / Education/Experience
- Grade 12
- Diploma in Media Studies
- Degree in Journalism
- Commercial Radio & Broadcasting experience
