Position Summary
As the Country Director for CARE Nigeria, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight to our country program. Your role will encompass the overall management of staff, programs, and resources, ensuring alignment with CARE’s values and mission. You will engage with government agencies, partners, and stakeholders to advance our agenda and advocate for policies that promote the well-being of vulnerable populations.
In this capacity, you will be instrumental in shaping CARE’s strategy for growth, designing innovative programs to meet the needs of communities, and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders. Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement CARE Nigeria’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment with global CARE priorities and local needs.
- Responsible for the overall management of the country program, including program development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Program Management:
- Oversee the successful execution of existing programs and initiatives, ensuring they meet or exceed quality standards.
- Cultivate new program opportunities and oversee the development of proposals for funding to support CARE Nigeria’s initiatives.
- Financial Management:
- Ensure responsible stewardship of resources, adhering to financial policies and ensuring compliance.
- Oversee the annual budgeting process and monitor financial performance against plans, ensuring effective use of resources.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, donors, and partners.
- Represent CARE in high-level meetings, advocating for the interests of marginalized communities and promoting CARE’s mission.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
- Enable capacity building among staff and promote a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
- Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks to the organization and its programs, ensuring safe and effective operations in a complex environment.
- Stay abreast of local political, social, and economic conditions and their potential impact on program implementation.
- Advocacy and Communication:
- Collaborate with the global communications team to amplify CARE Nigeria’s stories, successes, and lessons learned.
- Promote CARE’s mission and programs through various channels, enhancing visibility and support.
Qualifications
To be considered for the Country Director position at CARE Nigeria, candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- Education: A graduate degree in a relevant field such as international development, public health, social sciences, or business administration.
- Experience: At least 10 years of senior management experience in the humanitarian or development sector, with a strong background in program management and resource mobilization.
- Leadership Skills: Proven capacity to lead and manage diverse teams, fostering an inclusive environment that promotes staff well-being and development.
- Cultural Competence: Experience working in Nigeria or similar contexts, with a strong understanding of local challenges, culture, and socio-political landscape.
