Available Engineering Positions
1. Civil Engineer
As a Civil Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure projects that improve community access to essential services. Key responsibilities may include:
- Designing and overseeing construction projects such as water supply systems, roads, and sanitation facilities.
- Conducting site assessments and technical evaluations to ensure project feasibility and sustainability.
- Collaborating with local communities, contractors, and government officials to ensure project success.
- Monitoring and evaluating project progress to meet timelines and budget requirements.
Technical roles and responsibilities
- Manage, design, develop, create and maintain small-scale through to large-scale construction projects in a safe, timely and sustainable manner.
- Conduct on site investigations and analyze data (maps, reports, tests, drawings and other).
- Carry out technical and feasibility studies and draw up blueprints that satisfy technical specifications.
- Assess potential risks, materials and costs.
- Provide advice and resolve creatively any emerging problems/deficiencies.
- Oversee and mentor staff and liaise with a variety of stakeholders.
- Supervise constructors and provide technical guidance to ensure they adhere to the set designs, BOQs and standards.
- Lead the hand over the resulting structures and services for use to government and community stakeholders.
- Monitor progress and compile reports as per mile stores set for the project.
- Support the supply chain team in evaluating and selecting prospective suppliers for construction works.
- Develop clear sustainability strategy for all completed works.
- Comply with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety etc and deliver technical files and other technical documentation as required.
Engagement and networking
- To actively engage with various WASH construction stake holders’ networks (within and outside WV Partnership) in the States where she’s deployed and regularly update the Project Manager.
- Liaise with government and donor technocrats to ensure all civil works meet the set standards.
- Participate in interagency needs assessments (IRNAs) as relevant to UNDP project.
- Raise all request for construction/rehabilitation in coordination with the project manager.
- Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly construction reports.
Staff management
- Supervise the operation and maintenance officer including setting performance targets, conducting performance evaluations and ensuring the staff adheres to World Vision policies and standards.
- Provide on nob coaching and mentorship to the O&M officer.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS/MA in Civil Engineering
- Experience working in large and diverse teams
- Proven working experience in civil engineering
- Excellent knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD,Civil 3D or similar.
- Proficiency in site layout, grading, utility design, erosion control, regulatory approvals etc
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- License of professional engineer
- Quality Assessment and Quality Control procedures for technical projects.
- Knowledge of and experience in institutional arrangements, and political environment associated with community infrastructure development in South Sudan. Existing connections and relationships with local technical agencies will be an advantage.
- Proven experience in project management related to resilient infrastructure in South Sudan and in particular, NBeG and/or Warrap States will be an added advantage.
- English written and oral communication is necessary. Skills in the local language(s) of the project county will be an added advantage.
- Technical expertise in infrastructure project is desired
- At least 10 years of proven ability in the management of large infrastructure projects in fragile contexts
- Ability to master and implement donor regulations; experience with World Bank is a plus, experience with other bilateral donors such as USAID, the UN and others will also be considered favorably.
2. Other Engineering Positions
