About UNAIDS
The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) is an innovative partnership that brings together the efforts of 11 UN agencies, including the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the World Bank, among others. Our goal is to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030 and ensure that all people affected by HIV and AIDS receive the support they need to live healthy, productive lives.
Internship Opportunities
We are currently seeking interns in various fields, including:
- Programme Management: Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of UNAIDS programmes and projects.
- Communications: Support the development of communication strategies, content creation, and outreach efforts.
- Research and Analysis: Assist in data analysis, research, and reporting on HIV/AIDS trends and issues.
- Human Resources: Support HR functions, including recruitment, talent management, and employee engagement.
- Finance and Administration: Assist with financial management, budgeting, and administrative tasks.
Duty Stations
Interns will be based in one of our duty stations around the world, including:
- Geneva, Switzerland (Headquarters)
- New York City, USA (UN Headquarters)
- Nairobi, Kenya (Regional Office for Eastern Africa)
- Bangkok, Thailand (Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific)
- Brazzaville, Republic of Congo (Regional Office for Central Africa)
- Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (Regional Office for West Africa)
Requirements
To be eligible for an internship at UNAIDS, you must:
- Be a recent graduate (within one year) or student pursuing a degree in a relevant field.
- Have a strong academic record and demonstrated interest in global health and development.
- Be fluent in one of the UN languages (English, French, Spanish).
- Have excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team.

IMPORTANT: Candidates for internships at UNAIDS must be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate degree program at a recognized educational institution, OR have completed a course of study and have been awarded an undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate degree at a recognized educational institution within the past year. If candidates are recent graduates they will be expected to start the internship within 12 months of their date of graduation. | |

Additional Information: Candidates must be at least 20 years of age at the date of application and have a working knowledge (both oral and written) of at least one of the WHO/UNAIDS’s official languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) required in the office of internship. Persons with immediate family members employed by the UNAIDS Secretariat (e.g. son/daughter, brother/sister or mother/father) are not eligible for internships. UNAIDS may only offer an internship to candidates who have NOT previously participated in UNAIDS’ internship program. |
