UNITAR is now accepting applications for a Traineeship with its Multilateral Diplomacy Programme Unit, focusing on Field Visits and Online Training Programmes. This is your chance to gain hands-on experience in multilateral diplomacy, event organization, and capacity-building efforts that impact the international community.
About UNITAR: Training Leaders for a Better World
UNITAR, established in 1963, is a dedicated training arm of the United Nations. Its mission is to develop individual, institutional, and organizational capacities to enhance global decision-making and support country-level action for shaping a better future. Each year, UNITAR trains tens of thousands of individuals—including diplomats, civil servants, young professionals, and civil society actors—through courses on diplomacy, peacebuilding, sustainable development, climate change, and more.
The Multilateral Diplomacy Programme Unit (MDPU) plays a central role in UNITAR’s work by empowering current and future diplomats with the skills and knowledge needed to engage effectively in international affairs. Through high-level field visits, practical simulations, and digital learning, the MDPU has become a flagship for preparing the next generation of multilateral leaders.
The Opportunity: Traineeship in Multilateral Diplomacy
This traineeship is designed for motivated individuals seeking to immerse themselves in the world of diplomacy and international cooperation. - Virtual and in-person events involving UN officials, diplomats, academics, and policymakers
This traineeship offers not only exposure to the inner workings of the UN but also valuable experience in international project coordination, communications, curriculum development, and client relations.
Key Responsibilities
As a trainee, you will be a full member of the MDPU team, working closely with programme coordinators, training officers, and external partners. Tasks may include:
- Programme Support: Assisting in the organization and execution of training events, including participant outreach, agenda setting, logistical coordination, and follow-up.
- Research & Content Development: Conducting background research on topics related to multilateral diplomacy, global governance, and the UN system. Assisting with the preparation of training materials and participant guides.
- Communication & Outreach: Supporting marketing efforts through social media, newsletters, emails, and other digital platforms to attract participants and stakeholders.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Helping to gather participant feedback, analyze data, and draft reports to evaluate programme impact and recommend improvements.
- Administrative Duties: Supporting internal operations such as scheduling, database management, and document preparation.
This is a multi-faceted role where no two days are the same. Trainees will have the opportunity to engage with a global network of experts, learners, and international officials while sharpening their own professional toolkit.
